Job Description:

Sureway Construction Group Ltd. is a multi-faceted organization which includes extensive sand and gravel land reserves held under the Sil Industrial Minerals and Yellowhead Aggregates corporate groups.  Sil Industrial Minerals is seeking a full-time Aggregates Lab Technician. Reporting to the Land and Environment Manager, this position is responsible for the various duties and responsibilities associated with quality testing of the Company’s sand and gravel deposits.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent.

Schedule: 8 + Hours/day, Schedule as per Operational Requirements, OT after 8hr/day or 44hr/week]

Location: [Edmonton and Surrounding Area’s (non-camp position, required to live in the area) OR 9175 – 14 Street NW, Edmonton, AB - no direct access to public transportation]

Essential: Hard-working, reliable, flexible with schedule, ability to work in physically demanding conditions

 

Requirements:    

  • Personal Reliable Vehicle
  • CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract, Valid Driver’s License

Pre-employment:

  • Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation

 

 

Aggregates Lab Technician Responsibilities:

  • Quality testing of aggregate samples in the Company’s aggregate quality laboratory, including, but not limited to, washing/drying, particle size analysis, turbidity, density, and XRF.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of various types of analytical equipment.
  • Be committed to following, reviewing and producing new/revised quality control procedures.
  • Be able to compile, organize and review associated quality data.
  • Support the Land & Environment Team in sample collection activities (e.g. hand sampling, test pitting, drilling, etc.).
  • Support other field work activities as required (e.g. pre-disturbance assessments, pit monitoring, reclamation assessments, etc.).

 

Aggregates Lab Technician Qualifications:

  • At minimum, completion of a two (2) year technical diploma in the Chemical, Civil Engineering, Environment, or Geoscience fields from a recognized college or technical institution.
  • Relevant industry experience is considered an asset.
  • Relevant experience should include lab or quality control work in a comparable industry (materials, geotechnical, chemical, etc.).
  • Experience and knowledge of the mining/aggregate industry is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a high level of independence.
  • Willingness to learn and grow.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing ability.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary project team environment.
  • Successful candidates are required to have personal reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing which would be swab or urine depending on site requirements.
  • Candidates must successfully complete Sil Industrial Minerals Orientation, Site Specific Orientation as well as any other fit-for-work testing.
